The 2019 action-comedy film Shaft (often referred to as the second Shaft reboot/sequel in the franchise) follows John "J.J." Shaft Jr., a nerdy, MIT-educated FBI cyber-security expert. When his best friend dies under suspicious circumstances, J.J. is forced to seek out his estranged, legendary, and gun-toting father—private investigator John Shaft II.
